linocut portrait commission

Recently I was asked to create a portrait especially for a buyer of my prints based in Oregon in the US. She wanted me to design a black and white linocut that communicated the idea of inner peace, and having a restful soul. The portrait is based on photographs she sent me of herself so I could get a rough likeness. I've never done a portrait commission before so this was a great challenge - the other great part is how large she wanted it to be - 18 x 24 inches, potentially the largest print I've ever made.

We agreed to the print being an edition of 10 (making it more affordable for her as I wouldn't be carving the block for the sake of just one print).

Viva Brighton cover and interview..

As I'm taking part in Brighton Print Fair this September I was lucky enough to be asked to design the August issue of Viva Brighton magazine. A big honour as it's a great little local mag which I've always wanted to appear in - never thought I'd get to be a cover artist! I created this four layer linocut especially for it which took me about a week (the deadline was tight!).

There's also an article inside which you can read here

You can pick up the August issue of Viva all over Brighton and Hove now! (I got mine from Magazine Brighton on Trafalgar Street because any excuse to go in there..)
